KITIMAT RIVER PHOTO OF THE WEEK:
Aug 31st
I had the pleasure of fishing with my son, Corey, Ryley Ito and Mathias on the Saturdasy morning of the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce Coho Derby. (The 3 Amigos!) We hooked 6 Coho and landed five of them. We entered these Coho and Corey won a 250.00 Hidden Weight prize and I won a Mustang Floater Jacket and pants.
We caught some Coho and had a bunch of fun trash talking and landing Coho.

Aug 29 I had the pleasure of drifting with Melissa and Marg Dean. We adopted the Team name of “Rhonda and the M and M Mermaids!” 🙂 Our mission was to land Melissa and Marg’s 2 Coho per day limit. I am happy to report, “Mission accomplished”! Thank You ladies for a wonderful morning on the Kitimat River. It was fun fishing with you both.

Firstly the Chamber of Commerce Coho Derby Winners List posted above is the Corrected List. There was an error in the orginal Derby Winner List.
Congratulations to All the winners and to everyone who participated.
A Huge “Shout Out” to Laurel and all the Chamber Staff and vollunteers for all their hard work to make this year’s Derby one of the Best on record.
Mother Nature provided us with excellent weather and the Fish Gods blessed us with excellent numbers of Coho.
The Number One priority of the Derby is to have “FUN”! Mission Accomplished!

2024_September 7-John @ Blue Heron Charters fishing with Karen and Dan from Eagle River, Ontario and catching halibut, salmon, and crab.
August 28-Blue Heron Charters fishing with Charles from Calgary, Alberta and catching and keeping a 60 lb halibut-released a second 100 lb fish this day.
SUMMARY
The Douglas Channel produced excellent numbers of Coho and Halibut over this past Labour Day weekend. The Kitimat Harbour catch rates were sporatic. It ranged from good, better to excellent.
This years Coho run appears to be contiuning until September.
