Aug 8 Dean Melo provided these photos and comments In loving memory of his daughter, Cassidy. “I took Cassidy’s three best friends ,Tyla Miller, Jordan Talstra, Ciara Branco out fishing. The ladies are holding Halibut which are 111cms,106cms and 86cms in length.”
They are all just under the retention length for Halibut.
The Good Lord provided Cassidy with an exceptional Father and very good friends to cherish her life and to offer her a fitting tribute. Mother Nature provided excellent weather for Cassidy’s Memorial Fishing Trip.
The Fish Gods smiled on your catch. Cassidy is undoubtably smiling in Heaven.

We saw you yesterday (Thursday).The fishing has been consistent with smaller chinook and bigger coho. We haven’t kept any chinook however we are doing well on coho with all being in the 10 to 11 lbs.”

SUMMARY
The Douglas Channel continues to full of all species of salmon. The preferred species are Chinook and Coho but the Chum and Pinks are also in good numbers and are always ready to put up a pretty good fight.
Some boaters are fishing areas where there are too many pinks on the surface. Their strategy is to drop their lines down to 100′ or more to get under the Pinks to get to the Coho. While they are trolling deep, they are hooking Chinook. Some boaters report hooking more Chinook than Coho. A great problem to have! 🙂
Sue Channel and Jesse Falls are starting to produce better numbers but far short of limiting out a group of four. Cleo Point reported a couple Coho caught. Typically mid August should produce more. The Fish Gods are unpredicitable! : )
As always, this time of year, Halibut fishing is very good. The tricky part is to hook the Halibut under the legal limit to be able to keep them. The bait of choice this time of year are Pink bellys.

It was a perfect bright sunny day to catch a bright steelhead, a silver Coho and a few Pinks. They also wrestled with some very big, chum. Congratulations on your catch. Great Job Gord!

Aug 15 I had the pleasure of fishing with Michel, Michel. Andre. We created an acronym naming them the MMA Fishing Team. They all just started Spey casting and enjoyed catching their first Salmon on their Spey rods. They were mostly Pins but a great start to S
Aug 15 I had the pleasure of drifting with Michel, Michel.and Andre. We create an acronym with the letters of their first names and affectionatley coined them as the MMA Fishing Team. THey were all relatively new to Spey casting and s couple of them caught they first salmon catching Pinks. It was a great way to start Spey fishing and they were able to catch lots. We even enjoyed one for lunch. Throw in a few Chum and call it a pretty “Good Day”!

SUMMARY
The Kitimat River is still producing some fresh Pinks on the dominant high tides but to date, this year’s pinks run has been off. Most of the Chum have rreaching their spawning phase. There have been a few Coho being caught usually on the high tides in the lower river. There have been a few reports of Coho caught in bunches at Coho Flats, Cable Car and at the Powerlines. These catch numbers are no where near the catch numbers of our September Coho fishery. Every tide will produce Coho but it is still early.
