July 29 Drifting with my favorite 9 and 10 year old Fishing Partners, Zander and his best friend, Jacob.  Completing our group was my favorite daughter, Julie. (Zander’s Mom)
Gotta love when 3 generations can enjoy the art of fishing, the serenity of the river and doing a little trash talking.  : )
We hooked a punch of Pinks and a Godzilla Chum.  Most of All we had a lot of fun and laughter!

SUMMARY
The Kitimat River is full of Salmon with all 5 species being caught.  Albeit our Sockeye run is a skeleton run with an estimated 500 to 1000 sockeye and the Coho are a few early, early risers.
Pinks are the star of this week’s salmon showing.  Pinks are the Number One attraction for the entire family especially when they are fresh right out of the salt water.
Chum are in full swing this week.  It seemed that the Chum preferred the afternoon/evening tides over the morning tides.
The few Coho were also being caught this week are as usual, Bluebacks (2yr old males).
Chinook are still being caught but most have turned to spawning colours.  Anglers are reminded that Chinook closes for retention midnight July 31st on the Kitimat River.

KITIMAT RIVER UPDATE

The Kitimat River is open for retention of One Chinook/day under 80cms.  Chinook closes on the Kitimat River midnight  July 31st

SUMMARY
Chinook are still being caught in the out waters of the Douglas Channel but many boaters are commenting that they can’t get deep enough to catch Chinook with out hooking Pinks and Coho.  Not that this is a bad problem to have but Chinook is still the prize Salmon for most anglers.
The Douglas is full of Chinook, Coho, Pinks and Chum.
Halibut and Bottomfish are migrating into the inner waters of the Douglas Channel with one boater reported catching a Halibut in the KItimat Harbour while trolling.
This is an excellent time to be fishing the Douglas Channel.
She is not only productive but when the weather is good she is outstandingly beautiful!
