Kitimat River

June 1 The Kitimat River level started to rise after a couple days of sun and a day’s rain.  The river turned a glacial colour but remained fishable.
It is a little early for Chinook but a few hardcore anglers were “Bar fishing” at the Pump House and the Big Spruce

June 2 This photo of the Pump House shows that the Kitimat River has dropped and cleaned.

June 3: Scotty Westgate holding a 20 lb Chinook he caught in the lower Kitimat River.  Scotty reports that he was Bar fishing with #2 Watermelon Spin N Glo.  Scotty also reports, “that there was another Chinook caught the same morning”  Congratulations Scotty.  Thank You for sharing your photo.

KITIMAT RIVER BELOW HIRSCH CREEK - Primary water level and DischargeSummary

We are still in the early stages of the Kitimat River Chinook season but there should be Chinook migrating into the Kitimat River with every high tide.  The river level has been up and down but has steadily dropped and remained fishable most of the week.  The Kitimat River Hatchery reports, “that this is the return of their 3 year old Chinook with the adipose fin clipped.  Anglers are requested to return the heads of these marked Chinook to the Hatchery.  See you all on the river!

This is approx. 25 down the Douglas Channel but they are on their way.  Yahoo!
Halibut fishing was outstanding last year.  This year’s catch to date looks just as good as last year.  This year could be even better!   Anyone who has catching a Big Halibut on their “Bucket List”,  this could be your year.
