July 3 Lisa Sailor is holding the first Chinook she landed on the Kitimat River.  Well done Lisa and Congratulations on your first Chinook.   This Chinook is a Jack Chinook that measured 65cms and a little bit.  Lisa correctly recorded this Hatchery Chinook on her Fishing Licence in accordance with the regulations. She also dropped off the Head to the Hatchery Head Recovery Depot at Ron’s Mobile Tackle and Bait Shop.  Anglers are reminded to please drop off the Head of any Chinook Salmon that is missing the Adipose fin to the Kitimat Hatchery or Ron’s Mobile Van or Ron’s Tackle and Bait Shop.
This is not the Chinook that Lisa is hoping to catch but a pretty good warm up for the one she is looking for. 🙂
Good Luck and Thank You for sharing your photo.

Summary

The Kitimat River has been hot and cold this week mostly due to the snow melt that we are still experiencing.
As you can see by the smiles on the faces off the lucky anglers in the photos, there are Chinook coming into the Kitimat abeit not the normal numbers we usually expect.  I personally think that this Chinook may be a little late.  The pink and Chum are also late as they are just starting to roll in during the latter part of this week.
As this point, the Chinook run is either late or it is not going to happen.  I think it is too early to call but we know shortly.  Stay tuned to this report.
Either way with the Pinks and Chum starting to show.  Fishing on the Kitimat River be productive since there be three species of Salmon to fish for.  Depending on how deep you cast will determine what you catch.  When the Pinks jump in the shallows and/or soft water then put on a pink jig and catch them.  If the Chum and Chinook start jumping in the deeper water then put on a heavier jig or a bottom bouncing rig and fish for them.  There should be lots of fish to fish for in the Kitimat River this week.  Stay tuned to this Fishing Report for the photos.

June 26 Bob York emailed me this picture of this very nice Chinook he caught on his visit to the Kitimat River.  Congratulations Bob on a beautiful Chinook!  Thank You for sharing your photo with this fishing report.
