There are still a few Steelhead being caught through out the Kitimat River, although some are “Kelt’ (spawned Steelhead returning to the ocean).

Anglers sre reminded that Steelhead is closed on the Kitimat River May 15 to June 15.

Chinook are starting to show up and we can expect a bump of fish during this coming week’s high tides..20.3′ on Tuesday and Wednesday.  It is still relatively early but for  most Chinook anglers, it has been a long winter and many are anxious to start organising their tackle and respooling their reels in preparation for the upcoming season.

SUMMARY

The Douglas Channel started  to show her stock abundance through out the May Long weekend.  Halibut, Bottomfish, Crab (King and Dunganess), Prawns and Chinook were caught in really good numbers.
Although the weather forecast of high winds will deter fishing on the outside,  the big tides show help push Chinook to migrate up to this end of the Douglas Channel.
Many Saltwater Chinook Anglers are getting excited to catch “Mr Big”.
Anglers are reminded that the new regulations for 2025 is on page 2 of your Tidal Water Fishing License.
Most Note worthy change  is the reduction  of the Halibut limits.
“No person shall retain a Halibut greater than 102 cms head on length.  (78cms head off)  The possession limit is one (1) Halibut

Good Luck and Stay tuned!
