SUMMARY
All five species of Salmon continue to swim the waters of the Kitimat River as they did last week. More of the Chum are in the side channels happily spawning and the humps on the male Pinks are more predominate.  The majority of Chinook have completed their life cycle and we will enjoy their offspring for years to come.
Coho numbers are steadily getting better but catch rates are still eractic and spotty
Shore anglers are warned to be cautious of the Bears especially the Mother Grizzly with 2 cubs.  These Grizzly bears have been fishing on the gravel bar below the Hacthery down towards the upper, lower dike.
Boaters on the Kitimat River are requested to be more even more carefull when drifting the Kitimat River.  There have multiple incidents this year already.  Please also review the Kitimat River Update page on Facebook.  Everyone is welcome to post and ask questions.
Good Luck Fishing
Please Stay Safe

KITIMAT RIVER UPDATES Face Book PAGE

In response to drownings on the Kitimat River a few years ago, a group from Kitimat developed a Facebook page called Kitimat River Update. This group is comprised of Kitimat Drift boat anglers, River Guides, Kitimat Search and Rescue, Kitimat Hatchery staff and the R.C.M.P.

This is a public Facebook Page that anyone can post to.  Anyone observing any hazards on the Kitimat River are encouraged to post pictures and/or videos complete with specific details of the hazard to this page.  Please include accurate details of the location of the hazard and the time the pictures or videos were taken.

Aug 15, 2025 Curtis Nevraumont of Fishwestcoast Sportfishing Adventures provided these pictures and comments,  “Leading up to some fast and furious Chinook fishing, the crew spotted several large schools of herring jumping out of the water… trolling No Bananas spoons behind green hot spot flashers at 27-37′ was the ticket for some massive strikes coupled with long reel screaming runs”
Congratulations Everyone!  Great Job Skipper!

Dan Lachapelle from Halibut Hound Charters sent me these pictures and comments, “Hi Ron , we found a couple of chickens and released some oversized halibut ,  coho were hiding behind my usual secret rock lol , limited out with no issues , was great crabbing , seem to be lots around . Weather wasn t the greatest , but we at least dodged the winds . Over all Kitimat produced a freezer full of seafood once again .
Take care , good luck out there”
Wow!  Congratulations!  The Streak continues!
Thank You sharing your pictures!

SUMMARY

As the Pinks start migrating into their spawning creeks and rivers, Coho catches in the Douglas Channel  have improved.   I suspect with less Pinks to troll through, Coho catch rates had to improve. Fish Trapp on Devastation side and Money Point on Douglas side are the two hot locations.  Large Chinook are still being caught but fewer of them.

The KItimat Harbour fishery has started to produce the odd Coho but not in the numbers typical for this time of year.  We are hoping the peak tides and recent rains on the Kitimat River will attract more Coho up this end of the Channel.

Halibut and bottomfish continues to be excellent.  This is typical especially in the inner waters of the Douglas Channel.  With the Pink, Chinook and Chum spawned out carcasses washing out the river and creek mouths, Halibut and Bottomfish migrate into the inner waters.

Crabbing and Prawning is also excellent this time of year but smart money is to use fresh bait.

Good Luck Fishing and Stay Safe
Lucky High Five!
