SUMMARY
All five species of Salmon continue to swim the waters of the Kitimat River.  The difference with each species is that they are in difference stages of their spawning cycle.
Chinook are closed for retention and are in the reds.  Pinks, Chum and Sockeye are in the mid to late stages.  Coho are the New Kids on the block!
With each rising tide, more Coho will run the Kitimat River.  My experience is that Coho react to bumps in river water levels more than the other species.
Boaters on the Kitimat River are requested to be more even more carefull when drifting the Kitimat River.  There have multiple incidents this year already.  Please also review the Kitimat River Update page on Facebook.  Everyone is welcome to post and ask questions.
Good Luck Fishing
Please Stay Safe

SUMMARY

The Douglas Channel continues to produce exceptional numbers of large Chinook.
Nobody seems to know why but nobody seems to care why.  As long as they keep biting, anglers are happy to keep putting them in the cooler… :}
Coho catch rates are spotty for some boaters and exceptional for others.  Usually it is a scenario of being in the right spot at the right time.  The other explanation is there have been multiple Gill net and Seine Net openings.  If boaters troll an area shortly after the nets were in that area, salmon fishing is usually off.

The KItimat Harbour fishery has not started to produce as of the writing of this report.

Halibut and bottomfish is excellent.  This is typical especially in the inner waters of the Douglas Channel.  With the Pink, Chinook and Chum spawned out carcasses washing out the river and creek mouths, Halibut and Bottomfish migrate into the inner waters.

Crabbing and Prawning is also excellent this time of year but smart money is to use fresh bait.

Good Luck Fishing and Stay Safe
Lucky High Five!
