KITIMAT RIVER PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Sept 9 I had the pleasure of drifting with Amy and Luis on our Half Day (4hr) Driftboat Special.  We hooked 4 Coho and landed these 2 beauties on our morning drift.  Congratulations on your catch and Thank You for using our guiding services.  I was fun fishing with you both.
Any one wishing to Book a Driftboat Trip of a Lifetime, please call Ron 250 632 1275.

Sept 10 Des, Pro Guide for Reliable Guide and Charters on a personal trip fishing with Mike H and the boys.
These were the Coho landed by the group.  The other guys either did not want their picture taken, were too bashful or they are wanted by the law…. : )
One of the qualities of being a Good Guide is the stay tuned to the run.  Des while fishing on her own personal driftboat trips is also doing what I call “Pre client drifts” in preparation for our client trips.  Well done Des!
Congratulations to everyone for your catch.  Thank You for sharing your pictures with our Fishing Report.
Anyone wishing to Book a Driftboat Trip of a Lifetime with Des, please call Ron 250 632 1275 or email wakita@telus.net

Sept 12 Greg and Kurt, Fly Fishers from Quesnel landed 4 Coho drifting the lower Kitimat River.
Greg and Kurt fish the Kitimat River every year and this season were faced difficult conditions as we all were.  They have learned to adapt and conquer.  The proof is in the pictures!  Congratulations on your catch and Thank You for sharing your pictures with our Fishing Report.

Summary
The Coho fishing on the Kitimat River this week got progresively better with each growing high tide.  The bigger than average high tides produced more Coho and the rain we received on Thursday brought the river up which produced even more Coho.
Most of the seasoned, experienced anglers caught Coho during the low river levels and receding tides.   All anglers of all different skill levels caught more Coho with the bigger tides and higher river levels.
The middle and upper Kitimat River holes are starting to stack up with Coho.  The Big Wedeene area has been one of the Hot Spots.
Coho fishing on the Kitimat River should be outstanding as long as the Kitimat stays clean enough to fish.

KITIMAT RIVER UPDATES Face Book PAGE

In response to drownings on the Kitimat River a few years ago, a group from Kitimat developed a Facebook page called Kitimat River Update. This group is comprised of Kitimat Drift boat anglers, River Guides, Kitimat Search and Rescue, Kitimat Hatchery staff and the R.C.M.P.

This is a public Facebook Page that anyone can post to.  Anyone observing any hazards on the Kitimat River are encouraged to post pictures and/or videos complete with specific details of the hazard to this page.  Please include accurate details of the location of the hazard and the time the pictures or videos were taken.
Anyone drifting the Kitimat River is encouraged to view this Facebook Page to acquaint themselves with any potential hazards. Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2395579904062237

SUMMARY

Despite the low River levels, the Kitimat Harbour Coho fishery did not produce the numbers it usually does.  Even tho the conditions were perfect to set up this fishery we have enjoyed for years it just didn’t produce.  Such is fishing.  Just when you think you’ve got things figured out, the Fish Gods throw you a curve!
On a positive note, Halibut continues to be good.  Many boaters are doing their last fresh crab and prawn feed for the season.
