Summary

This summer’s weather has been similar to the rainy summer we experienced last year. We received a lot of rain last year but lost very few days due to high water levels. This summer we have a larger snow pack to content with in addition to the rainfall. I suspect this week’s rain is melting the lower portions of the snow pack. This is why the river levels have climbed so dramatically with even moderate rain. We have lost more fishing days due to high and dirty water this year to date than all of last year. The forgiving fact is that the Kitimat River drops and cleans exceptionally fast. Smart money says to get out  fishing and catch some Chinook while the conditions are good because conditions could change quickly.  The conditions are difficult but we should be Thankful for the times when the Kitimat has been fishable.  The forecast for next week is for better weather.  Better weather should create better fishing conditions.  Stay tuned.
