High water levels continued this week but the Kitimat RIver remained fishable throughout. Pinks and Chum have been showing up in better numbers. Chum seem to be abnormally big this week. The Kitimat has been renowned for an exception return of Big Chum. She started to live up to this reputation this week.

July 8 Kyle Struck, a staff member of our Tackle Store caught this 31lb Chinook just above Sawmill. This Chinook was caught on a K13X Kwik Fish, colout- Grinch. This was one of three Chinook that Kyle landed. Congratulations Kyle!

July 9 I had the pleasure of fishing with Adelle and Gary Skretnek. The Kitimat was very high but still a shade of green so we decided to do a morning drift.. We landed these 2 huge Chum and lost a Chinook.
The fishing wasn't`t spectacular but productive. The weather was excellent and the trash talking in the boat was exceptional. It is also a pleasure to fish with people who are quick witted and quick on the rods.:)

July 11 Marc Girard drifted with his friends Randy Marshall and Craig Norman. They landed a 25 and 30 lb Chinook. Congratulations Guys!
July 12 I had the pleasure of fishing with one of my favorite fishing partners, my daughter Julie. We were joined by my good friend Ken Fleming on this morning drift. We landed these 2 big Chum and a Chinook and 2 other Chum.
When Julie and I fish together there is never a shortage of trash talking, attitude or laughter. I think she got the attitude from her mother. Thanks for a great day Ken and Julie!
July 14 Marc Girard drifted with his fishing partner, Lucille Boudreau. They landed a 22lb Chum drifting the lower Kitimat. Congratulations Lucille!
Summary
We are noticing that the exceptionally hot weather is having less and less of an effect on the river height. Although there is still a lot more snow at higher elevations, I think that worst has past.
With every rising tide the Kitimat River is filling with Chinook. Chum and Pinks. Despite the high water conditions anglers will continue to catch ``All the Above``.
As always there is ``silver lining``. Angers who prefer to fish for Pinks have been blessed with an added advantage due to the high water. Pinks love to hang out in the soft, slack seams next to the gravel bars. The high river level creates more of these seams for the Pinks to hold in closer to shore.
Location, Location, Location is the key. The Pinks hold closer to shore. The Chum are usually a little further out and the Chinook are in the deeper seams and pools. Depending on where you cast will usually determine what you catch. The bonus is that you are catching fish. This is an exciting time to be fishing the Kitimat River.
