We are enjoying some unbelievably hot weather this summer especially after the last year. The hot sunny days are having an very little affect on the river level and the fishing conditions are excellent.
In addition to the excellent weather Salmon stocks are plentiful on the Kitimat River, especially Chum stocks. Chum Salmon are an excellent fighting fish and has evolved to be very popular on a fly.
It has also become very a popular salmon to smoke. I just tasted some Chum that was dry brined in 5 parts brown sugar to 1 part salt. Some anglers claim that Chum are the best Salmon to smoke.
Bon Appetite!

July 28 Denise Pedro submitted this photo and reports, "our middle son, Myles (the hockey/soccer kid) just picked up fishing with our neighbor Darrell Fontaine! Myles has taken to fishing like he was born to...cannot get enough~ Santa has been asked for a clean garage and freezer to start stocking what he's bringing home (grin)", The mother of a hockey player, soccer player and a fisherman is a common occurrence in Kitimat. Congratulations to Myles and to his Mom!. You make me proud to be from Kitimat.

July 27 Fred Christensen emailed me photos of 3 Chum and a small Chinook he caught under the Haisla Bridge. Fred reports "I had the day off on Friday the 27th, so I fished the Kitimat.
Quite happy with the 11 foot rod" Congratulations on your catch and Thank You for sharing your photos.

July 29 I had the pleasure of fishing with my son Corey and his fishing partner, Julia. We landed a bunch of Chum and Pinks. Corey and Julia are the proud graduates of 2012.
They would also both pass the Fishing course if one was offered. Thanks to Corey and Julia for a fun and entertaining time on the river. :)
Aug 2 I had the pleasure of fishing with Tamara and her father Mike Houston and their relative, Lisa. We caught a bunch of Chum. Pinks and lost a Coho and a 30 plus Chinook.
The weather was incredible. The fishing with excellent and my clients were very pretty. I was the envy of every boat on the Kitimat. They were also very keen and accomplished anglers. In fact Tamara Is somewhat of a celebrity on the Kitimat River because she landed a 51 lb Chinook last year fishing with Andreas Handl last year.
Thank You for using our Guide services. It is always refreshing to fish with a family that shares the passion for fishing. Congratulations on your catch! I hope that you enjoy the smoked Chum.
Aug 3 I had the distinct pleasure of fishing with Gregg Turchansk on a drift of the lower Kitimat. Although Gregg had fished the saltwater, he had never fished for salmon in a river before.
Loosing fish during the learning process is to be expected but Gregg extended the learning process of landing fish to a whole new level. Gregg's quick wit and worldly one liners kept us both entertained
for the whole drift. Gregg eventually got the hang of landing the fish and vowed to to be back! Thank You for using our Guiding Services and well done landing the fish, Grasshopper!

Aug 3 Justin Lowes fishing with his good friend Chris Matos landed 2 Coho on their drift and lost another. They also landed a few fresh Pinks. Well done Guys!

Aug 4 Kyle Struck and Trent Vines were fishing the Kitimat River with their Fly Rods. Kyle landed a 20lb Chum with his Loomis Spey Rod and Trent landed a 19 lb. Chinook on his single handed rod.
Trent is an Associate Guide for Reliable Guide and Charters and Kyle works in our Tackle Store and would some day like to guide. Congratulations on your catch guys!
