Steelheading on the Kitimat River is pretty good right now. The river height is fluctuating up and down and the Steelhead are constantly moving. They seem to be in a run one day and gone the next. Fishing for Steelhead as most Steelheaders know, is a similar to "hide and seek". The challenge is to find them. The Kitimat Hatchery run was the hottest stretch on the Kitimat River this week. Driftboaters are also doing very well. All launch sites and pull outs are now open.

I had the pleasure offishing with my very good friends, Todd Haynes and Chris Sepio. Todd owns and operates Nautical West Charters and Chris is the Sales Rep for Loomis Rods, Air Flo fly lines, SuperFly and Nautilus Fly Reels to name but a few.
Needless to say both are excellent anglers and a lot of fun to fish with. We had an excellent day hooking 6 Steelhead but only managed to get a photo of this doe that Chris landed on a fly. Chris was fishing with a 14' 9'10 Loomis Dredger Fly Rod.. We hooked 4 Steelhead on a fly and 2 Float fishing. Thanks for sharing an awesome day guys. Good Friends! Good Fishing! Good times!

Fishing with my friends, Eric, Brendan and Chris. We hooked 3 Steelhead and landed 2. We had an awesome morning Steelheading on the Kitimat River. Brendan who we nicknamed, "Grasshopper" should have been a comedian.
We had a lot of laughs and pretty good fishing.

Douglas Channel
Halibut, Bottomfish and Crab continue to be the target species' for most boaters this week. There have been reports of a few halibut being caught and crabbing has been excellent. May should bring the first Chinook
of the season in the outer waters of the Douglas Channel. With such a strong showing of Herring this year, usually the Chinook season is also strong. Now that we are on the verge of this theory becoming a reality, we eagerly await the Chinook migration. Stay tuned!
Thank You to everyone who submitted info and photos to this Fishing Report.
