KITIMAT RIVER:

The Kitimat River water level had some drastic fluctuations in water levels again this week.  The water visibility in the main stem Kitimat River was poor for most of the week but started to clean for the weekend.  The anglers who had some success catching Coho fished the upper Kitimat or the confluences of the tributaries and/or in the tributaries.

Trout fishing was very good this week despite the high and murky water.  Most Trout fishers had the best success fishing in the tributaries of the Kitimat River with bait.  With the murky or limited water clarity using bait was the key to catching Trout.

Oct 19 Derek Wakita caught a 12lb Coho in the upper Kitimat River which was still be pretty silver.  Derek was float fishing with Gibbs Floats rigged with a chartreuse Cheater and some roe.

Oct 19 Kyree and Athon were fishing the upper Kitimat River and they hooked 6 Coho and landed 3.  Kyree said, "The one I kept was pretty silver but the other two were pretty red.  We had the best luck using chartreuse Blue Fox Vibrax Spinners".  Well done Guys!

Oct 21 Ariel Kuppers fishing with Brandon Wakita and Travis James landed 15 Cutthroat on one of the Tributaries of the Kitimat River.  They were using Gibbs floats with Berkley Power Bait worms comboed with Dew Worms from Bubbas Bait Barn.  Well done Guys! Ariel, Travis and Brandon were all wearing Simms Rain Coats.  Simms Rain Gear is arguably the Best Rain Gear on the market today.  Wearing quality Rain Gear is a must when fishing North West BC in the fall.

Summary
Coho fishing will continue for a few more weeks.  Trout fishing will be good through the winter weather pending.  As the temperature gets colder and the rain subsides the river level should drop and the water clarity will provide for some excellent Trout fishing.
Anglers should beware of Bears fishing this time of year.

DOUGLAS CHANNEL: There was very little fishing in the Douglas Channel this week.  The recent Halibut closure to Recreational sector discouraged many boaters from bottom fishing.  http://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/xnet/content/fns/index.cfm?pg=view_notice&lang=en&DOC_ID=128582&ID=recreational  The Kitimat River was also discharging dirty water into the Kitimat Harbour so the Winter Chinook fishing was not very appealing either.  There was a couple boaters did go down the Douglas Channel to do some crabbing and they had very good for Crab. Bon appetite!

New Products:

After attending the Redl Sports Dealer Tackle Show it is now time to do some ordering of New products that I saw at the tackle show.
There were many new products and some New tackle manufacturers.  I will share some of these in this fishing report.

Western Filament who makes Tuf-Line has introduced a New Line called the "XIndicator".  It has the same qualities of their "super braids" with a feature that allows anglers to instantly know how far and how deep they are fishing.  The colour changes every 10'.  I received some samples from Rex Nelson at the Redl Show and if the weather permits I intend to try out Tuff Line's New line this weekend.  A Bif Thank You to Rex!  Anyone wishing to try some of this line please email me at wakita@telus.net and I will try to arrange a trial for you.

Another New product for our store is Scientific Angler's Skagit Multi Tip Fly Line and their Shark Skin shooting line.  I also anxious to cast this New Fly line and the Skark Skin Shooting line this fall for Steelhead on either the Kalum or Copper River.  These sample were given to me by  Jeff Wieringa who is the National Sales manager for Scientific Angler.  A Big Thank You to Jeff!  Anyone wishing to try some of this lines please email me at wakita@telus.net and I will try to arrange a trial for you.

Good Health and Good Fishing!
Sincerely and Cheers
Ron Wakita
