Winter condition are here.

We received our first substantial snow fall this week. This snowfall followed a cold spell we received last week. We are starting to receive the typical variations of winter in the North West. These conditions deters most anglers except for the ardent ones like Ariel Kuppers who reports catching some Cutthroat Trout in the Upper Kitimat River.
I decided to stay in inside this week and reminisce of warmer times such as the day the Jesse Houston caught a 62lb Chinook on the Kitimat River. The day was June 12th and Noel Gyger and I were drifting the lower Kitimat when I received a phone call that Jesse had just caught a big Chinook in the hole below us. Jesse was fishing with Dustin Edwardsen and Hanna McCrea. Jesse caught this beauty on a
Luhr Jensen Kwik Fish K13.
As the events evolved, Jesse had weighed it into our Instore Derby and his 62lb entry was determined to be the Winner of our Instore Derby.
Jesse won a
Fenwick HMX 11' Rod and a
Murado Satellite Reel. Congratulations Jesse!
Nov 27 Ariel Kuppers. Jesse Houston and Justin Lowes landed 20 plus Cutthroat Trout. One of the Trout that Ariel landed was 18" long by 10" Girth. Wow! Nice Trout. They were Foat fishing with
Gibbs floats and
Berkely 3" Power Bait Worms with
Bubba's Bait worms.
Congratulations Guys! Jesse also lost a Steelhead.
Summary
The Kitimat River will produce Trout for those who brave the elements of Winter and venture out. I intend to take care of some indoor projects until it warms up a bit. I will leave the hardcore angling to the younger anglers. Stay Tuned!

I spoke to Lori at Mk Bay Marina today and she said that there were a few boats that ventured out but she did not hear if they caught any fish. She had heard that my good friend Vistor Lick had caught 4 Chinook last Saturday. I did speak to Victor to get photos of these Chinook. Victor has been during exceptionally well fishing for Winter Chinook this season.
Nov 27 Ferd Wuensche reports "the water was like glass. We hooked 3 and landed one. Attached is my fishing partner with a beauty caught at 55’ on an
Luhr Jensen Abe&Al Flasher with a blue coyote spoon"
Congratulations Ferd and your Lucky fishing partner. Please include your fishing partner's name and I will be happy to include him in our Fishing Report.
The Winter Chinook can progress throughout out the next few months depending whether or not the baitfish continue to linger in the Kitimat Harbour. Stay tuned!
