The Trout fishing conditions were challenging but with a little ingenuity a couple of hardcore anglers managed to get out fishing.
Dec 15 Ariel Kuppers and Justin Lowes, two Associate Guides for Reliable Guide and Charters were out doing a little personal Trout fishing on the Kitimat River. They were actually doing some ice fishing for Trout in Goose Creek a tributary of the Kitimat River. Some would say, "they are crazy to fish in sub zero temperatures" Dressed in snow pants and insulated Gore-Tex and armed with an ice auger and a barbecue, Ariel and Justin had a great day of fishing landing 13 Trout.
Summary: There are still plenty of Trout in the Kitimat River but I suspect most anglers will be busy with Christmas activities for the next few days. Anglers who do venture out, please be careful around the ice!
DOUGLAS CHANNEL:
City Centre Hardware and Sporting Goods Instore Derby winner: Largest Halibut, Three generations of the Losier family landed this 86lb Halibut in the Douglas Channel Aug 16, 2009. Jacque Losier and his son Colby and father Roger landed this Halibut with a Gibbs Spreader Bar and Gibbs Halibut Leader baited with a Herring. The Losiers won a Redl Sports' Sea King Halibut Rod and an Ambassadeur 10,000C Reel. Congratulations to the Losiers!
Summary: The Douglas Channel has received high winds and below zero temperatures which has deterred even the most hard core of anglers. A few boaters are waiting for the weather to improve to catch some Winter Chinook.
