June 24th Les and Chavonne proudly holding a beautiful Chinook they caught while fishing with Jacob Neuman, Pro-Guide for Reliable Guide and Charters.  Les and Chavonne booked our 1/2 Day (4hr) Driftboat Trip 400.00 for morning or evening.  Jacob commented,  “It was a Great day on the water with Les and Chavonne.  They were a pleasure to fish with.

June 25 Chris Lundle Michael Lundle  74cms hooked 2 Chinook during their drift with Jacob, Pro Guide for Reliable Guide and Charters and landed both.  Congratulations!

June 23 : 84 cm caught by Arnie Nagy on a green spin and glo at Giant Spruce

June 23rd: Great day on the water with Orlando and Kariya fish with Pro Guide for Reliable Guide and Charters, Jacob Neuman.  Orlando and Kariya did a 1/2 Day evening drift with Jacob.  Three fish hooked and the third was quite the charm.
Congratulations Orlando that is one big, bad Chinook.

June 24 :Aidens friend.

SUMMARY
The Kitimat River Chinook catch rates slowly increased as the size of the high tides increased.  The high tide peaked on June 24th at 18.7′ and the Hatchery Island Chinook anlgers enjoyed landing  9 chinook On Monday June 24th.
As I write this Summary on Wednesday evening, with the high tide is still at 16.1′ high, there were 5 Chinook landed by the bar fishers at the lower, lower dike bar.
The tide chart should be your friend, when fishing for Chinook on the lower Kitimat Rover especially during the higher high tides.

KITIMAT RIVER UPDATE

The Kitimat River is open for retention of One Chinook/day under 80cms.

The Skeema River and Nass River closed for retention of Chinook

SALMON QUOTAS AND REGULATIONS FOR THE KITIMAT RIVER

Please note:  The Kitimat River is open for Bait including Roe Sept 1st 12:01am for salmon but NOT to target Trout or Steelhead.

(including tributaries) All May 15 to Aug 31 Bait ban.
on west bank between signs at Kitimat hatchery outfall. All Apr 1 to Mar 31 No fishing for salmon.
downstream of Highway # 37 bridge. Chinook Apr 1 to Jul 31 1 per day, 80 cm or less.
Aug 1 to Dec 31 No fishing for chinook.
Coho Apr 1 to Oct 31 4 per day, only 2 over 50 cm.
Nov 1 to Dec 31 No fishing for coho.
Chum Apr 1 to Aug 31 2 per day.
Pink Apr 1 to Aug 31 2 per day.
upstream of Highway # 37 bridge. All Apr 1 to Mar 31 No fishing for Salmon.

Total Salmon Daily Quota is 4 Per Day with each Daily Species Quota applying.

Total Possession Limit to transport is 8 salmon   Fresh and Salt combined.

Douglas Channel

June 22-23 Curtis Nevraumont owner of Fishwestcoat provided these pictures and comments, ” fishing was consistent for Chinooks out in the channel, trolling spoons has been out producing bait with some nice sized Coho showing up as well.

Halibut continues to be excellent when  sitting on ledges in 80-360′ of water. Octopus was the bait of choice for the larger halibut.”

Summary
Chinook fishing is continues to be good through out the Douglas Channel with quite a few Coho being caught.
The Chinook fishing in the north end of the Douglas has been increasing through out the big high tides with Jesse Falls being the hot spot at this end of the channel.  One boater reported boating 3 Chinook in front of the Kitimat River on low slack.
Halibut continues to be very good on the outer waters and some of the inside waters halibut spots are starting to produce. ie Fish Trapp on Devastation side and Grant point on Douglas side.

Anglers are reminded that Area 1 to 5 Tidal Waters is closed for retention of Chinook.  Douglas Channel, Area 6 is not closed for retention of Chinook.
