Summary
Every high tide seems to be producing the odd Chinook. There have been many reports of Chinook landed and lost. There were 2 reports of Chinook hooked but during the fight, the fish were high jacked by seals.
It is still early but it is an exciting time to be fishing the Kitimat River. I Love Chinook season!
Stay Tuned!
Douglas Channel
PHOTO OF THE WEEK DOUGLAS CHANNEL
Kevin Thorne holding a 40 plus lb.Chinook he caught and released in the Douglas Channel. Kevin says that he releases anything fish over 25 lbs landed in his boat to preserve the genetics of the larger chinook.
Kevin explains, “please make sure to let everyone know the importance of releasing those bigger fish to preserve their genetics. Years back we saw fish like this every day. Now they are pretty rare. I try to send everything back over 25. 12-20 pounders are way better table fare anyway. Smaller fillets and much easier to cook properly. I’m hoping fisheries and oceans will implement a size limit in the ocean as well.” Well done Kevin. Congratulations on your catch and even more Kudos for your ethics.
May 27 Chanel is holding a beautiful Chinook she caught fishing with her father, Andreas Handl of Kingfishing Adventures. They landed 4 Chinook and lost a couple more. Congratulations to Dad and daughter. Well done!
