Summary
Pinks are still the highlight on the Kitimat River although many of the males are starting to show their large male humps.
Most of the Chum are turned to their spawning colours. There are still a few bright sea liced females being caught.
Anglers are asked to beware of Bears! Both Black Bears and Grizzly Bears are patrolling the lower Kitimat for food. There are 2 sets of Grizzly Mothers. One with 3 cubs and the other with 2 cubs and another single smaller male Grizzly. We saw a smaller Black Bear in a tree. We think it scampered to avoid a Grizzly Bear that was close by.
Please be careful. Hike in numbers, make lots of noise and be armed with Bells, Air Horn, Bear Banger and/or Bear Spray.

Coho catch rates are all over the map. From one extreme to the other. Everything from really good to none. Whales and Commmercial Net Fisheries may be possible explanations for the erractic catch rates
Reports of good numbers of Chinook stil being caught in amongst the Coho.on the outer waters of the Douglas Channel. Ling Cod has also been very good on the outside.
Halibut catches are still very good but a few boaters are reporting catching halibut over this year’s max size of 126cms.
Anyone wishing to check “Halibut off their Bucket list” now it s good time to do it.
