Summary
The Chinook fishery is closed for retention on July 31st but the highlight of the Kitimat River is still the Pink fishery. It has been outstanding season for Pinks on the Kitimat River and looks like it is going to be good for a while. There are more Pinks in the Douglas Channel heading this way.
The only issue is that the Kitimat River water levels have dropped so low that the Pinks are only plentiful on the rising tide. The other phenomenon is that the fishing is better in the morning especially if there is a morning rising tide.
Family groups from of all over the world have participated in this fishery. I met folks from England, Germany, Mexico and California. Fishing is a universal pastime for my many families.
It is nice to watch, witness and report sharing our resource with folks from around the world.
There have been 4 Coho reported caught in the Kitimat River this week. Judging by the numbers of Coho caught in the Douglas Channel, the indicators are positive for an outstanding Coho season to come on the Kitimat. Stay tuned!

Summary
To some, this is the best time to fish the Douglas Channel. All species of Salmon are available and the Halibut is outstanding right now. To repeat an explanation from a previous report. If catching Halibut is on your “Bucket List”, this is the year to do it! It has been an outstanding year for Halibut! As demonstrated by the pictures in this Fishing Report, you can catch limit of Halibut, Salmon and Crab in the same day. The Bounty of the Sea has been generous this season and Coho season in the inner waters of the Douglas Channel is on the verge of happening soon. Coho are being caught in Sue Channel this week. The next hot spot will be the Kitimat Harbour Fishery. Stay tuned!
