The Chinook are coming!  The Chinook are coming!  The Kitimat River Chinook run is progressing with more Chinook hooked, landed or lost with every high tide. The Kitimat River water level rose and fell due to the snow melt but she remained fishable.  The Kitimat River seldom becomes unfishable due to snow melt.  The weather has been very nice with the exception of a few showers.  Albeit there are not as many Chinook as there will be in the coming weeks but anglers are eager to catch their first Chinook of the season.
June 1 Tom Orr landed a 12lb Chinook and lost another bigger Chinook. Tom drifted with Vince Sealy and Shane Campbell on an afternoon drift and hooked 2 Chinook and landed the smaller one.  Such is life in the Fishing world.  It was a great day to be on the Kitimat River, nice weather, clean water and good friends.
 Chinook (King) Salmon (Photo-of-the-Week)
June 3 Mike Herzberg of Reliable Guide and Charters fishing with his fishing partner Anterio, hooked 2 Chinook and landed this chrome 26 pounder. Mike reports, "Antero landed this 26 pounder.  Was a wicked scrap.".  Both these Chinook were hooked on Mike's favorite Kwik Fish.  Congratulations Mike and Antero.  Very nice Chinook!  Mike and Antero are doing some pre-client drifts in preparation for our client bookings.  Any interested anglers interested in booking Mike me at
June 3 Jesse Houston and Clint Travis landed a 20lb Chinook on the Kitimat River.  They were Hot Shotting with Luhr Jensen Kwik Fish in Clint's Outcast 2 person Pac 1200 Pontoon boat.  Clint is holding his Chinook and his daughter Natalie.  This is a special moment for the Clint's family photo album.  Well done Jesse and Clint!
June 4 Joe Martins reports that "Joe" caught a 24lb Chinook landed at the Kitimat River Pump House and lost a few.  Most of the anglers at the Pump House usually Bar fish with Yakama Bait Spin N Glo's comboed with Gibbs/Delta mini hoochies.
Summary  As all Chinook anglers will attest to, the anticipation of hooking big Chinook, the exhilaration of fighting these big brutes and the frustration of losing them or the gratification feeling of landing these Kings of Salmon are all part of the intense emotions associated with the Chinook angling experience. There is an incredible moment of accomplishment that can not be explained.  It has to be experienced!  Gotta Love it!  Stay tuned to this Fishing Report for more special moments of Kitimat Chinook anglers in the weeks to come.  Any Chinook anglers wishing to share their photos please email them to me and I will be happy to post them in my reports.

We received a little rain this week but most days were blue skies and calm seas.  The Douglas Channel is truly breathtaking with her snow capped mountains and clear, deep, blue/green waters.  Her deep stock abundant waters have produced many Halibut, Crab, and Prawns this week. Chinook fishing is just starting to heat up.
May 30 Justin Lowes, John Rego and Brian Appss caught 3 Halibut down the Douglas Channel.  The "Three Amigos" caught 3 Halibut weighing 20, 25 and 50lbs.  They caught these on High Slack in Fish Trap.  Well done Guys!
  Pacific Halibut
May 30 John Eckstein fishing with our clients Kelly Svensson and Bryce Chinook boated a 20lb and a 25lb Halibut plus several Grey Cod.  Kelly purchased this fishing trip as a Christmas trip for Bryce.  Congratulations for catching some nice fish Bryce and Kelly.  Merry Christmas Bryce!. Anuone interested in booking a trip with John please email me at and I would be happy organize a trip for you.

Summary The Douglas Channel is producing really good numbers of Halibut.  Things are shaping up to be an excellent Halibut season.  We received many reports of Halibut but we receive so few photos.  Any anglers wishing to share photos of their catch please email them to me at  I would be happy to include them in our Fishing Report.  There have been a few more Chinook caught in the Kitimat Harbour this week.  The Chinook fishery in the Kitimat Harbour should start to heat up shortly. Crabbing and Prawning is also really good.  We are truly blessed to live in an area with such stock abundant waters.  There is a group promoting the concept of Kitimat being the "Playground of the Inland Coast"  They are also promoting "Retire Kitimat Campaign"  Please also view Royal Lepage/Reliable Guide and Charters poster below.
We have plenty of dates available for Kitimat River Drift boat trips, Douglas Channel Halibut, Chinook and Coho trips and Jet boat trips.  Any interested anglers, please contact me of call 250 632 1275.
